From New Zealand to Lyon

We are Robin and Camille, passionate about travel. We have traveled extensively in Europe, North America, and Asia, and then we settled down for a year in New Zealand. Each time, we always sought out the best coffee shop in town; it was our go-to spot.

We loved spending time in these places because we already had a budding passion for specialty coffee. And we also loved them for the warm welcome and cozy atmosphere. We felt right at home, and when you're far from home, it provides a sense of security.

Our Journey: An Adventure in Motion

In 2013, during our year in New Zealand, we deepened our knowledge and skills as Baristas, and enrolled in our first training course.

New culinary trends, pastries

There, Robin fell in love with his first Carrot Cake, while Camille became passionate about brunch culture, this moment of the day which has become a true art of living on the other side of the globe.

Through our discoveries, we realized that it was possible to combine delicious food with dietary restrictions. Whether you're vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or lactose-free, food should remain a pleasure without compromise.

Upon our return to France in 2014, the idea of going back to an office job became unthinkable. We had a deep conviction: a warm, inclusive coffee shop with high standards for coffee had its place in the heart of Lyon. That's how Slake was born.

2015: Opening of our first coffee shops in Lyon

We are opening our very first coffee shop in Lyon, on rue de l'Ancienne Préfecture (Jacobins). A somewhat crazy gamble, born from our passion for specialty coffee.

2017: Opening of the Diploid

The arrival of Diploid. A few years later, we created Diploid at 18 rue de la Platière. This place quickly became a flagship address for brunch in Lyon 1, driven by the same commitment to quality.

2022: Opening of our coffee shop in Annecy

Off to the lake. Where our youngest child will be born in 2022 in Annecy. We had always dreamed of settling in this city one day, and Slake Jacobin had almost opened there. We'll have to wait a few years before we can open our first coffee shop in Annecy.

2025: The unification of Diploid becomes Slake Terreaux

For greater clarity and to affirm our shared identity, Diploid is officially becoming Slake Terreaux. One family, three locations, but always the same promise: homemade food, great coffee, and a warm welcome.
